In 1960s New York, young Calogero grows up in the vibrant streets of the Bronx. His upright father, Lorenzo (Robert De Niro), does everything to keep him away from the dangers of the streets. Yet Calogero is captivated by the world of charismatic gangster Sonny (Chazz Palminteri), who rules the Bronx with an iron hand and opens up an exciting new world. Torn between his father’s moral compass and the allure of Sonny’s life, Calogero must find his own path.
